All of the kids have enjoyed having their fall break these past couple weeks. I had to work and, not being able to entertain them, had to deal with constant complaints of "I'm bored!" Anna Lynn had the funny experience of going in for an adjustment to her braces, and one of her teeth popped out. The tooth-fairy had to give her a little extra since the tooth had extra "bling" attached to it for her braces. The girls were also really excited to get a chance to see Conner's chinchilla, Marty. It reminds me of a pikachu, a very nervous pikachu. Naturally, the girls love it and want one of their … [Read more...]
Ouch!
Dylan had to get his in-grown toenail treated. It does not look like a pleasant experience! He had a treatment called a "wedge" to take out the portion of the toenail that was perpetually in-grown and infected. On a positive note, he did phenomenally well in the Mid-State Choir Competition. He made Mid-State and ranked as 6th alternate for All-State. Way to go Dylan! Cheers, -Kev … [Read more...]
Frozen Custard!
It's frozen custard time in Middle TN again! The kids and I really mourned the loss of our local frozen custard place, Amy's Frozen Custard. So I was really delighted when Rachel told me that there was a flozen custard place near her in Hendersonville called Ritters. So naturally, I had to take the kids down to see if it was any good. Evidently, Ritters is a chain. But the custard was really good. Somehow, it seemed that Amy's custard was better. But I had no complaints. The kids friends, Kelly Jo and JoJo, also joined us for a round. I wondered if they'd ever make it to the custard joint … [Read more...]
Happy 6th Birthday, Katie Jo
Katie Jo came into this world a bit differently than the other three kids. I'd always been rather grossed out by the whole childbirth ordeal - placentas and amniotic fluid are just not my thing. So I was always scared to death of the whole process. I can even recall with the Lamaz class I took with the kids mom that they asked all the dads and partners what they feared. My response? "All the gross stuff."However, somewhere down the line I matured to the point that when our Ob/Gyn asked if I wanted to participate in the delivery I said yes. So with Katie, I actually delivered this child!Of … [Read more...]
The Real Reason Emily Needed Braces
Braces are not cheap! I was hoping because their mom and I had good teeth that our kids wouldn't need braces themselves. But it turns out that teeth go crooked for a lot of different reasons. In Emily's case, she was a "tongue thruster" which meant that she pushed out with her tongue against her teeth enough to cause them to develop an overbite. As you can see in this picture, our teeth look great! :^)Cheers,-Kev … [Read more...]
Emily Turns 14!
I'm astounded at how fast my Emily Kay is growing up. She's getting to be such a grown up lady these days. Let's see now - she was born on July 16, 1993 at Huntsville Hospital. Dr Aulds was our Ob/Gyn at the time. As I recall it was Kelly's easiest delivery of the bunch. Kelly had her epideral fairly early and was comfortable. The family was all milling about and she was getting tired, so the nurse herded everyone out under the pretense of them getting lunch. But it was really so Kelly could rest. The nurse asked how she was doing and she said, "Good, except for a dull pain here" and she … [Read more...]
More Gems from the VaultAs part of the divorce agreement with Kelly, I have a major piece of work ahead. I'm slowly going through and cleaning up all of the photos that Dylan scanned. Most of the scans ended up having two to four photos saved in a single image file. So it's going to take a lot of work to get them all broken out into separate files. Considering that there are 10's of thousands of photos, you can imagine the work ahead. Here's a pic of me and Emily just after she was born. Even though it's mid-summer and I have one of my best tans ever, you can see that she was a shade or two … [Read more...]
Dylan had worked hard for me all last week to get all of my old photographs into digital format. He'd been scanning full time, even overtime, late into the night for the whole week. I still have a lot of work to do in cleaning up all of the photos. But there are lots of rewarding finds throughout. Like this one (above). I remember that photo - taken at a dump of a hotel called the Blue Horizon down in Ft Walton Beach, FL. It wasn't a great hotel, but it was great for what we could afford. Dylan was on his way to 2 years old and Emily hadn't been born yet. And we both had great tans! We had … [Read more...]
Now that’s a back rub!
I took Katie Jo to the doctor and then to Walgreen's for a perscription. As we waited on the Rx, KJ took advantage of the opportunity to use the demo back rub station they installed near the pharmacy. For some reason, I thought she looked hilarious, so I snapped a photo of her:Later in the week, she was playing with Anna Lynn and her friends Kaylee and Savanna. The conversation was also grin-inspiring: Savanna: I'm the Queen of England. Kaylee: Well, I'm the Queen of Sweden! Anna Lynn: Oh yeah? Well, I'm the Empress of Japan. Katie Jo: Ok, then I'm the Queen of Kentucky!I just … [Read more...]
The TN Renaissance Fair, our Memorial Day tradition
We've been doing the TN Renaissance Fair every Memorial Day weekend it seems for at least five or six year. I can imagine that we'll be doing it for many years into the future. The budget wasn't as big this year as in some previous years, so we didn't get to play quite as many games. But it seems like everyone had a lot of fun. Both of the girls tried their hands at "Dragon Joust", but alas, they did not vanquish their foe. (grin)We got to see lots of the shops, the living chess match, and the falconer's demonstration. I really wanted to see the entire knight's tournament event. But it'd … [Read more...]
