Translating Procedural Code Between Oracle and SQL Server

Title: Translating Procedural Code Between Oracle and SQL Server

Level: 200

Abstract: Surveys show that about 45-50% of internal database administration operations use more than one database platform to support the enterprise. In many database shops, the most effective DBA is the one who has the greatest understanding of the database platforms they have to support.  This session will teach the attendee the major differences between procedural languages Oracle 10g, PL/SQL, and SQL Server 2000, Transact-SQL.  Attendees will learn about differences in datatypes, conditional processing, error and exception handling, variables and parameters, and much more.  Plus, attendees will learn corollaries between SQL Server’s most popular system stored procedures and Oracle’s built-in packages.

Prerequisites: Intermediate skill with Transact-SQL
